Course Dates September 21^st -  24^th  ( Monday - Thursday ) 2026

A four day practical course led by Simon Carter. Starting with a day’s drawing at the Truleigh Centre situated on the Downs, the course will look at how we can record things in the landscape, whether expressively in charcoal or by working across multiple sheets, constructing a panorama or by focusing on the minutiae of the landscape. In the studio we will look at ways to unpack your drawings, understanding what is in them and find ways to maintain the freshness of the initial drawings as we develop studio work.

Course Dates: 25^th- 26^th September 2026 (Friday - Saturday )

Standing on Truleigh Hill there are the most stunning views of the South Downs and the Adur Valley. You are held by the hill, grounded by the chalk beneath your feet, yet exhilarated by being up high, soaring and floating, feeling the air and wind in your face. If you love being in the landscape and are interested in making work that expressively captures the light, space, air and physicality of being on the South Downs then this course will provide you with the location, materials, inspiration and guidance to help you make exciting work.

These sessions are designed for artists who need encouragement and support to become more confident and self-motivated with their painting.

This 3 day course is suitable for any students who have attended the two day Colour and Light courses that Emily and Katie have run from the Trueligh Centre on the South Downs either in 2025 or 2026. The freshness, freedom and immediacy of the studies made in situ are qualities that are often wished for in sustained and finished paintings. The studies are not there to be copied but to be used as inspiration and triggers for new work. This course is all about unpacking and using the content in these studies to make new painted studies and work towards finished paintings. The colours, marks, layers and memories are material to play and invent with. They have become your landscape for you to walk through and explore. They are reminders of the sensations, the light, the weather and the feelings of being out on the hill.

Online Course Time: Oct 26^th - 30^th & Nov 2^nd - 6^th  2026 (Monday - Friday each week) 10am - 11.15 am each day.

This annual course has been very successful and popular with artists. They have found it incredibly helpful and informative for their practise; enabling them to break out of feeling stuck and then onto producing personal and exciting work with confidence and renewed curiosity and energy. It is all about motivating artists to get working in their studio every day, for 10 days. With daily input from Emily as your Paint Fit Trainer, the course will encourage you to make a positive commitment to your practice and instil a daily work ethic that will become an essential part of your painting routine that continues after the course ends.

Online Course Time: Nov 23^th - 26^th   2026 (Monday - Thursday ) 9.30am - 12.30 am each day.

Autumn begins and Nature slows. As a celebratory finale the colours and majestic shapes of Autumn trees illuminate the landscape; often framed with a slate grey or sharp, clear, pale blue sky. Ornate tapestries of reds, oranges, yellows, browns, greens and purples appear in the canopies that reach skyward and spread out like hanging skirts. Their branches and trunks are like limbs; weathered, standing, twisting and bending in the spaces. This 4 day course is all about capturing and exploring these qualities in drawing and painting.

Course Dates: 2^nd Dec  2026 (Wednesday)

Another unique opportunity to make use of the expanse of the Seawhite Studio and the in-spiration and motivation from Katie’s particular form of teaching. You do not have to be a dancer! This workshop is suitable for all, for anyone with an open heart and mind, physi-cally able and willing to let go and get messy. Beginners welcome. An ideal gift for a friend or loved one.

Course Dates: 3^rd- 4^th December  2026 (Thursday - Friday)

Embodied Drawing - An experimental 2 day drawing course embracing the physicality of drawing on a large scale - using your own body, gesture and sensation as your subject. Using the generous space of the Seawhite studio there is almost no limit as to how large you can go.
