Paint Fit Exhibition 2024
This online exhibition is a celebration of the expressive and exciting work, both ongoing and completed, by 9 artists who attended my online Paint Fit course in November 2023. The artists showing their work are; Sallie Govett, Gisella Kissing, Suzanne Lawrence, Jennifer Privett, Deborah Pugh, Liz Shard, Linda Shearer, Frances Steven and Nicola Watson. Each of them have very different ways of working and reasons for making their work. However, working together last Autumn during Paint Fit we all shared an ambition to paint more, with curiosity, courage and a greater connection to our own feelings about the subject we had focused on. Finding out what that meant to each of us and what that might look like too was a journey that unfolded over the 2 weeks of the course.
During the two week course I demonstrated on camera, offering creative processes and trains of thought to help them focus and recognise the expertise and resources that they already had, and add in new ones too. We became a community of painters who supported one another. We made a commitment during those two weeks to be uncompromising and playful; open to the new possibilities of what might come up as we worked steadily and purposefully.
A daily motivation and focus. A calm, creative logic to help you make decisions and begin working each day with a real sense of purpose and confidence. This is what I instill into each session. Every artist would like to make pertinent decisions as they work; with an ambition to be open, to search, to keep a playful edge and curiosity. Each piece of work can then feed ideas for the next. To have a conversation with your work is what really matters. The ideas come from the paintings as they grow. Each artist in this show has generously shared their thoughts about their work. The work is exciting and taking each of them on a new journey to explore what really matters to them.
