Katie loves and has used the subject of still life in one way or another in her work for a very long time. However, it is always as a reflection of her own domestic space and life - rather than the staged set up of perfect flowers, an elegant bottle, a poised book. Her practise of using meditation within teaching ties in perfectly with her interest in the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi Sabi. The perfect imperfection of daily life are noticed and celebrated; the washing up bowl, the discarded socks on the floor, the accidental shadow between the washing up liquid hand soap and a jam jar on the kitchen window sill. The dead flowers in a vase. The beauty of the everyday. The impermanence of it all.

Online Course Time: Oct 28^th - Nov 1^st & Nov 4^th - 8^th  2024 (Monday - Friday each week) 10am - 11.15 am each day. This course has been very successful and popular with artists over the last 3 years. Many have found it incredibly helpful and informative for their practise. It is all about motivating artists to get working in their studio every day, for 10 days. With daily input from Emily as your Paint Fit Trainer, the course will encourage you to make a positive commitment to your practice and instil a daily work ethic that will become an essential part of your painting routine.

Course Dates December 2^nd -  4^th  (Mon - Wed) 2024

On this three day practical course we will explore how digital photography can be used as a valuable resource for landscape painting. Unless you are a plein air painter it is likely that you are making paintings in a studio away from the landscape, in this case photographic sources can help with what can be a visual deficit. One of the great advantages of digital photography is the ability to zoom in, and to be able to explore the subject in ways that are rooted in its image. By zooming in and cropping the photograph we find image possibilities of which were unaware at the time we took the photograph. Bolder, simpler compositions may often be found, but also the experience of entering into the image has its own rich reward.

Course Dates: 5^th- 6^th December  2024 (Thursday - Friday)

Embodied Drawing - An experimental 2 day drawing course embracing the physicality of drawing on a large scale - using your own body, gesture and sensation as your subject. Using the generous space of the Seawhite studio there is almost no limit as to how large you can go.
