Now Offered as an Pre-recorded Online Course - You can start the course any time between June 24th and September 30th. You can have access to the films for as long as you need. This is a pre-recorded version of the live online course that I did in May. It is created as a 4 day course and each days recording is approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes long. It provides demonstrations and explanations of the processes and exercises that I offer. These are designed to help artists tackle the subject in a way that is expressive, personal and more intuitive. It also suggests ways to navigate the creative process and the journey that a body of work takes . The joy of being able to offer these recorded sessions is that you can work in your own studio space and at your own speed. You can watch them several times over and at a pace to suit your daily timetable. You can take much longer than four days if you need to. Once you have completed the course and made work, which does not have to be finished, you can send me images. I will enjoy looking at them and give you emailed feedback about what you have done and advice about how you might go forward..

Online Course Start a daily practise that becomes a personal project and a body of work
This course gives you exclusive access to a pre-recorded 20 minute film where Emily shares with you a process that is fundamental to her practise as a painter. Also part of the fee is a one hour, one to one, online tutorial to help you create and sustain a personal project that you can develop into a substantial body of work. In the film Emily does practical demonstrations and shares her thoughts and decision making as she works. She talks about the potential application of this way of working and how it can help you open out the possibilities of the subject.

Online Course September 28th - 30th (Monday – Wednesday)
This 3 day course is all about becoming more knowledgeable and confident when mixing and using colour in your paintings. For the purposes of this workshop I will be demonstrating with a range of good quality acrylics and mediums on paper, but all of the principles are relevant for oils too. We will be working with a selection of 3 or 4 of each of the primary colours, plus white. With these we will mix an infinite range of colours.

Online Course Experiments in Watercolour is a three day practical course led by Simon Carter. The course aims to have a fresh look at the medium of watercolour and how it might be used in an expressive, experimental and contemporary way. The course will not be about tech- nique, but will seek to use watercolour in a bold and painterly manner. Students will be working from drawings and will be required to make a series of drawings prior to the course starting.

This course is for students wishing to expand their drawing practice and find new limits, beyond the scale of your average drawing, by working large, freely, involving body and breath. You will be your own model, working on 2 or 3 large sale drawings, and guided by Katie’s exercises and meditation. She will encourage you to experiment, layer, develop and change the drawings over the course of 3 days.

Online Course October 26th - 29th (Monday – Thursday)
Emily is going to set up her studio with screens draped with richly coloured, patterned fabrics and a chair for her daughter to sit for her. This 4 day course offers the opportunity to follow how Emily looks, selects and tackles making studies from life and then how she uses a combination of studies and working directly from the model to make paintings. To take part in the course you will need to have your own model in your studio for 3 out of the 4 days. This could be a member of your family or a friend (if you have a larger space to have 2 or 3 fellow painters to join you then you can work from the same model and set up).

Autumn begins and Nature slows. As a celebratory finale the colours and majestic shapes of Autumn trees illuminate the landscape; often framed with a slate grey or sharp, clear, pale blue sky. Ornate tapestries of reds, oranges, yellows, browns, greens and purples appear in the canopies that reach skyward and spread out like hanging skirts. This 4 day course is all about capturing and exploring these qualities in drawing and painting.
