Still Life Painting

The course will encourage a playful and freeing approach to making paintings from a still life, moving away from a traditional illustrational approach. The inspiration will be a large, communal still life using objects brought in by all the students (eg. found objects, natural forms, photos, objects, fabric, and anything that makes you feel inspired to paint). Students will explore texture to describe and transform the objects. This focus increases the poetic force of the subject, aided by the rich properties a variety of materials including oils, acrylics, house paints, varnishes and collage materials and fabric. For extra inspiration we will be looking at artists such as Tapies, Donald Baechler, Keifer and more to help us.
