Putting People into Painting - Term 2 Week 1
The course dates are the January 25th & 26th,February 22nd & 23rd, March 21st & 22nd.
Make paintings from previous drawings whilst finding individual ways of working choosing and exploring materials.
This course explores the universal subject of people in a new and exciting way. The course begins with making observational drawings on paper, directly from the clothed model, in different set up situations. Students will also work in sketch books, combining collage work together with gathered information relevant to the figure; from magazines, photographs, films and other sources that are inspiring. Even everyday events provide valuable material; people waiting for the bus, sitting on the train, greeting at the airport, a lone figure walking in the park. Your paintings could capture and celebrate your astute observations of the quirks and expressions, the interaction and discussion between two or more people. The poise, posture and expression of a pose gives away the person and what they feel and are doing. Whether it is vulnerability, joy, love or any other human emotion.Through individual tutoring and group discussions you will find your own expressive and personal approach to the figure; this will extend the subject of the figure in a variety of settings/environments. Using a broad range of materials, together with collected material and inspiration from artists such as Chantal Joffe, Grayson Perry, Marlene Dumas, Rose Wylie, Rubens, Velazquez, Goya, Georgia Hayes and Luc Tuymans, you will find new confidence and enjoyment in your work.
