Working from Nature
Course dates: May 29th & 30th 2018 (Tuesday & Wednesday)
Cost includes some materials
This course is about transforming the dramatic natural structures of trees, flowers, pods and seeds into amazing drawings and paintings. Students will use motif and pattern to simplify the forms together with using scale, materials and compositions creatively to transform these incredible structures into singular images, rather than scenes of landscape. Students will work from our wonderful resource of natural objects as well as objects borrowed from the Booth Museum. We will be making large and small scale work using lots of different materials and approaches to the subject. There will be demonstrations and slide shows of artists work as inspiration. Louise Bourgios drawings in the Tate Modern of plants and Terry Winters drawings and paintings are perfect examples of this approach. Other inspiration will be drawn from art from the East.
