The Creative Painting Space - Spring

Course Dates February 9th-11th (Wednesday - Friday) 2022

Choose which sessions in the year you would like to come. Booking ahead is essential to secure your place.

These sessions are designed for artists who need encouragement and support to become more confident and self-motivated with their painting. Artists bring their own subject and the tutor helps them to unpack, research and create their own personal practice, in order to help their work evolve and for them to see the creative possibilities more clearly. As part of the course the tutors also do talks showing the work of other artists. We explore using new materials and tools to play with to refresh and add to what you are doing. In conjunction with this we create practical, creative exercises to unpack the process of painting. Each student is given individual critiques and tuition as well as benefiting from working with a group of like minded artists. Three consecutive days gives the space and time to really see progress and to get absorbed in your work.

Magical Spaces - An Experimental Drawing Course

Course dates: March 7th & 8th 2022 (Monday - Tuesday)

Drawing is a magical and transformative process, demonstrating just how we as humans/artists perceive/see/experience 3 dimensional space , and translate it onto a 2 dimensional surface, making our mark on the (cave) wall.

This course will have you deconstructing the process of drawing; creating your own ‘still life’ installation in the studio space using everyday studio objects, cardboard, black and white paint, paper, ink, string and drawing materials. Think Picasso’s cardboard cut outs meet Cornelia Parker’s exploding shed!

Landscape drawing and painting - Process and Abstraction

Course Dates: March 21st - 23rd (Monday - Wednesday)

A three day workshop exploring the idea of how the processes and elements of landscape can have their equivalents in drawing and painting. The pull of gravity, the erosive, dissolving qualities of fluids, the directional qualities of wind and growth, the play of light and space, are some of the elements that will be explored. The ability of drawing and painting materials to embody and express these qualities through how they are manipulated and applied will be central to this work shop. We will be exploring the big fundamentals of landscape rather than the specific details of a particular view. Think Turner, Monet, Peter Lanyon, Helen Frankenthaler, Ivon Hitchens, Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchel and Per Kirkeby and of the moving body itself as a force of nature.
