Painter to Painter

Course Dates: 23^rd-  25^th March  2026 ( Monday - Wednesday)

A 3-day practical course led by Simon Carter looking at how painters can learn from and be inspired by the work of other artists. Paintings are not made in isolation, neither are they only depiction or expression, they are part of the whole continuing culture of painting.

In this course we will each work from one of three paintings listed below. These paintings are all strong, clear images with a mix of objects in the composition and a degree of structural complexity. Starting with a clear figurative image will give us a tangible subject, hopefully opening up a space in which we can seek to push our discoveries towards painting that is free and uninhibited.

We will each make a choice of one of the paintings and over the course explore and improvise from your chosen work.
