Landscape drawing and painting - Process and Abstraction

Landscape drawing and painting - Process and Abstraction

Course Dates: May 4th - 6th (Wednesday - Friday)

A three day workshop exploring the idea of how the processes and elements of landscape can have their equivalents in drawing and painting. The pull of gravity, the erosive, dissolving qualities of fluids, the directional qualities of wind and growth, the play of light and space, are some of the elements that will be explored. The ability of drawing and painting materials to embody and express these qualities through how they are manipulated and applied will be central to this work shop. We will be exploring the big fundamentals of landscape rather than the specific details of a particular view. Think Turner, Monet, Peter Lanyon, Helen Frankenthaler, Ivon Hitchens, Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchel and Per Kirkeby and of the moving body itself as a force of nature.
