The Summer School takes place over two weeks every summer. Students can choose to attend one or two weeks. It is a highly productive course: two days are spent on location and three days are spent in the studio. Whilst on location, students are making studies in response to the place. We encourage students to move away from copying what they think they see and instead get a real feeling for the place – observing all their senses and going beyond the visual. Back in the studio we find ways of helping students make images from their experiences, memories and studies. Each student finishes the week with at least three completed paintings.
The location for the summer school alternates between the land and the sea. Past locations have included Cuckmere Haven and the Seven Sisiters, the South Downs and Shoreham harbour.
