Emily Ball at Seawhite
Contemporary Drawing and Painting Courses
Movement, SOUND and light
Here at Seawhite Studio we are lucky to have such a large and versatile art studio that enables us to offer students the freedom to explore and play with new and innovative art practices.
We are also fortunate to work with exciting and diverse artists and are very excited about our latest collaboration with artists Betsy Dadd and Lydia CS. Both artists as a duo share their practice through Kaleidoworks, working with students, groups and communities through commissions with Camden Arts Centre, Serpentine, South London Gallery, V&A Museum, Counterpoints Arts as well as independently devising projects in Palestine, Pembrokeshire and Ahmedabad, India.
Their series of Moving Image courses and Drawing and Sound course, run at Seawhite Studio, bring a dynamic new energy and perspective to the process of working with light and movement in creating art.
Moving Image III at Seawhite Studio
To give a flavour of the innovative and experimental processes that Betsy and Lydia develop to inspire students with their work, this week's newsletter introduces the artists and the courses, through images, video and students experiences.
We are proud of our wonderful studio, but also enjoy the flexibility of being able to take our art courses and workshops out to others. Emily Ball goes on tour regularly to run courses nationally and internationally and this week we have news of her latest 'on tour' course run as a residential from Cober Hill Hotel in West Yorkshire - with 4 places left to book!
Moving Image 3: the animated sketchbook
Course dates: November 29th & 30th 2018 (Thursday & Friday)
This two day course will explore the potential of the artists book as something that can become alive with movement. We will look at how the blank pages can be surfaces for drawing, folding, cutting, collage and animation. The workshop is perfect for those wanting to build on the experiments of the previous moving image courses, as well as being suitable for newcomers. All welcome.
Drawing and Sound
Course dates: January 21st & 22nd 2019 (Monday & Tuesday)
This exciting two day course will investigate drawing in relation to sound. We will explore ways in which noise, melody, pace and rhythm can be translated into colour and marks.
The workshop will cover lively and mindful experimentation across drawing from the acoustics of materials, sonic environments, sound walks, musical notation and lead into making a moving image piece.
Emily Ball goes on Tour to Yorkshire.Monday 19th to Friday 22nd August 2019,
A residential art course at Cober Hill Hotel, Cloughton, Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take part in a four day workshop with Emily Ball in Yorkshire!
Students will be encouraged to use the inspiration of the surrounding landscape at Cober Hill, to make strong studies packed full of exciting information before returning to the studio space to use these studies to develop paintings.
“I encourage students to take risks and experiment with their approach to creating images and their use of materials. I do not teach traditional techniques. I help students to push their work forward and find ways of refreshing, strengthening and expanding their methods of selecting and assembly of information to create work that is individual and exciting.” Emily Ball
