Contemporary Drawing and Painting Courses
Gary goodman - new courses
Seawite Studio is excited to announce five brand new courses with tutor and artist Gary Goodman. Gary is a painter and poet and has exhibited his paintings and prints and has performed his poetry around the world: from the frozen wastes of Norway and Alaska down to Japan and the warmth of New Zealand and the Southern States of USA.
He provides his personal introduction to these courses, inviting us to focus on 'doing' and break out of our comfort zones!

We also have news of Autumn and Winter shows that will inspire and excite - Drawing Together, a group of 7 artists who bring together diverse work, 'from the imagined to the imaginative', exhibiting in the Seawhite Shop Foyer and in the Atrium Gallery, paintings by John Skinner and Emily Ball.
Gary Goodman - One Day Intensive Courses
'These intensive one day courses are designed to get students focused on the creation of work - sometimes thinking gets in the way. There will be time for reflection, but the main impulse will be 'doing'.These intensive one day courses are designed to get students focused on the creation of work - sometimes thinking gets in the way. 'With the Printmaking for instance, I will be demonstrating various approaches and techniques that don't require any specialist expensive equipment; therefore they can be developed and continued from home.
The Image and Text and the Large Scale Drawing, will hopefully encourage students to break out of their comfort zone, using a variety of stimuli (the human figure, words) to investigate, explore and play with new approaches'.
Large Scale Expressive Drawing from the Figure
'Often there is a desire to simply produce 'final pieces' - in these instances the student will hopefully be arming themselves with a wider range of possibilities to bring to their own practice, to interrupt the formulaic and the habitual.
Every artist has those works hanging around that aren't quite doing it, not really working, unfinished or unresolved - re-working abandoned paintings is a chance to bring those along and whip them into shape'.

'My philosophy has always been that doing is better than thinking; some people can talk a good painting/drawing/sculpture/print but they can only realistically be arrived at by making, by observing and responding, constant creative investigation - thinking comes later'.
Painting People. Frankie.

Exhibiting in the Seawhite Shop Foyer from August 21st - October 26th 2018
DRAWN TOGETHER are a group of artists whose engagement with line, texture and composition has inspired their work. Whilst all having exhibited individually, the threads of their philosophy and approach came together in an exhibition at the R K Burt Gallery in London in October 2016, curated by Emily Ball and Katie Sollohub, tutors at the Seawhite Studio. This show was then followed by the Skyways Gallery in Shoreham-by-Sea, last year.
Their subjects are diverse, from large to small, abstract and literal, concrete to factual and from the imagined to the imaginative. The synergy of the group has formed the basis for an exciting and varied exhibition, 'Works on Paper' which will take place at the Skyways Gallery, in Shoreham in November 2018, a small selection of which are exhibited here.
In the Atrium Gallery - Autumn/Winter 2018/2019.
