SEAWHITE STUDIO - An Inside View!
Our Spring courses and exhibitions are well on their way and Seawhite Studio is buzzing with activity and creativity, with students and artists exploring and developing new ideas and producing and showing exciting new work. In this week's newsletter, Emily shares what it feels like to be inside the studio and gallery, soaking up this wonderful atmosphere.
Breathing Life into Paint with Simon Carter
Simon's course was so inspiring and helpful for all of the students who attended. Prior to attending the course, they were given the task of doing atleast 10 drawings for homework, from a view through a particular window in their house. The process and instructions for the drawings were deliberately playful and unconventional to ensure that the drawings had unexpected qualities that were perfect for development in the studio.
After making drawings from drawings the students then made a series of paintings from these. Simon encouraged directness and generosity with the paint. There was no time for being fearful of making mistakes.
"Layers of colours, corrections, excavation and drawing with colour meant that extraordinary paintings appeared. The output of painting was prolific, exciting and liberating".
Exploring 'Acrylics and Mediums' with Julian Brown
This intensive day, which took place last week, was about working with 4 specific acrylic mediums to explore the many ways in which it is possible to work with them in the paint. For the students attending it was a revelation to have such flexibility and work with beautiful layers of luminosity.Julian is not only a brilliant painter and tutor but also an expert with mediums and process. He is extremely generous with his knowledge.

Exhibition opening - a great success!
We had the opening of the new exhibition in the Atrium Gallery at Seawhite on Saturday 'A Forward Step Back' - Paintings by Ann O'Daly and Ann Cook.
The show looks beautiful. We had lots of visitors on Saturday all blown away by the quality and impact of the show. Well done to the artists. It has been an extraordinary journey to get where they are with their paintings.
Our newsletter, regularly features news of new exhibtions at the Atrium Gallery and other locations in Sussex and London, showcasing the exciting work of our artists and students. We love to invite you to join us for the PV's and opening of shows, so we always include the invitations in the newsletters. We hope to see you at the next show!
