looking forward in 2018!
Happy New Year!
We hope you had a wonderful festive season. Now the sparkly decorations have been put away for another year everything seems a little drab. January can be a tough month with the winter blues kicking in. The days are still short and very dark. It is good to be able to go to your studio and shut the door and step into the world of painting.
However, we can also dream of Spring and Summer and begin planning. We thought we would tempt you with photos of last year’s Summer School at Cuckmere. It was blissfully hot sitting on the decking looking out over the sea to the cliffs!

If you want to join us at this year's Summer School, just register via the course details at the end of this newsletter - the first of 3 week courses has just one place left, so you could still book your place on the first week. There are places on the further 2 weeks if you miss your chance, so it's worth booking your place now!
Summer School 2017
South African Shores
I am lucky enough to be getting on a flight to Cape Town, South Africa, on Friday to go and teach a four day course next week. I cannot quite imagine not needing my woolly jumpers, but it will be hot with blue skies.

From the studio where I will be working we look across to Table Mountain and down on the multi-coloured buildings below. This is my fourth visit to teach in South Africa and I am extremely grateful to my lovely hosts and all the brilliant artists that come on the course. I am very excited to see them all again. I will let you know how I get on.
Working from Nature
My New Year’s resolution is a familiar one.....'Paint More'. Time by myself to think and work is a top priority. So I have booked in a couple 10 day solitary retreats this year to help me recharge my painting batteries. I like to be outside working. I can respond and react to my environment without my head interrupting. It will also give me space to write.....and I have a lot to do. This year I have to finish my next book 'Working from Nature'. It will be a similar format to 'Drawing and Painting People - A Fresh Approach'. It will be packed full of exercises and illustrations by me and other artists talking about the different possible methods and focus when working from Nature as your inspiration.
Here at Seawhite Studio we wish you every success in 2018 with realizing your New Year resolutions!

Looking forward to Spring and Summer!
This time of year we artists need a bit of a boost, some energy and playtime, so what better an opportunity than to join our brand new 'Let Go and Play' course in March, run by artist Helen Turner.
Bringing fun into the studio, this is a chance to release yourself from any creative blocks or frustrations and relax into experimenting with all sorts of materials, colours and concepts. The perfect opportunity to explore new ideas in 2018!
Tutor: Helen Turner
Exploring and focusing on the possibilities of painting is followed through in another new Spring course - Acrylics - The Power of Mediums, with artist Julian Brown. This short course gives you a full day to work with acrylics in new ways, opening up the full potential of this versatile medium.
Tutor: Julian Brown
Tutors: Emily Ball and Katie Sollohub
