Welcome, September! A new season is beginning — a time to start new projects, return to creative routines and after the slower days of summer, take part in something fresh and playful.

To celebrate that back-to-school feeling, Emily has a gift for you!  She is offering FREE places on the forthcoming Dress Up & Draw workshop led by Eve Stuart.

Yes, you read that right — FREE!

Taking place on Friday 11 September, this is a one-day workshop all about drawing, dressing up and experimentation. Eve will invite you to explore clothing, fabric, shape and character through observational drawing, expressive mark-making and collage — with an eclectic collection of costumes, fabrics and accessories to inspire you along the way.

There are just seven FREE places available, and they will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

So if you’ve been looking for an excuse to spend a day being creative, experimental and a little bit playful, this is it!

Meet Eve Stuart‍

Eve Stuart is a talented final-year Costume Design student at Wimbledon College of Art, who has recently worked with Rambert Ballet and the Royal Court Theatre.

Drawing is a vital part of Eve’s design practice, but for her it is also an immediate and playful way of looking — exploring shape, silhouette, attitude and character.

Eve drapes and constructs fabrics directly onto the body, discovering ways to enhance, transform, conceal and reveal its shape. Her practice celebrates the movement and character that emerge through enrobing, stretching and adorning the body in fabric. There is a wonderful sense of play and discovery in the way she works, allowing the materials and the figure to interact and evolve.‍

At the heart of Dress Up & Draw is experimentation and play.

You’ll take turns dressing up and drawing one another in outfits, using patterned fabrics, eccentric accessories and whatever other wonderful combinations you can create.

“What will you wear? Maybe a frilly flamboyant skirt or big chunky patent boots. Dressing up is a joy, let’s capture the fantastic feeling of fabrics and materials adorning the body on paper.” ~ Eve

Eve will bring along a wonderful selection of clothing, fabrics and props, and you’re very welcome to bring your own favourite clothing or accessories to add to the mix.

 The day will begin with quick observational sketches, looking closely at fabrics, textures and objects before moving into larger, more expressive drawings. You’ll also make your own collage papers and layer them into your artwork, building figures through mark-making, fabric-inspired textures and imaginative costume design.

All materials are supplied, and you’ll leave with a collection of artwork made during this wonderfully experimental day.
