With less than a month to go before the start of Embellishing the Body, we’re getting everything in place to ensure that this course really delivers. Imagine it: three days in the studio working from the clothed figure in an outfit designed specifically for this course, being tutored by Katie and painting alongside Emily. It’s going to be brilliant! Discover the relationship between the human form and the fabrics that adorn it — how fabric enrobes, reveals, accentuates and disguises. Explore the elegance of folds, glimpses of skin, and the play of light and texture as fabric moves with the figure. |

2. ‍Explore Form, Movement, and Fabric |
|

 Experience the visual richness that a moving, fabric-draped figure can bring to your compositions. Learn to capture the rhythm of fabrics as they fold and swirl — from the extension of an arm to the flourish of a twirl. ‍ |

3. ‍Master the Language of Paint |
|

Experiment with the expressive qualities of paint to create vibrant, dynamic images that convey texture, pattern and motion. Develop your ability to describe the weight, direction and flow of cloth as it conceals and reveals the body beneath. |

5. ‍Paint Alongside Emily |

Having Emily painting and working alongside you will be a motivating addition to the studio atmosphere! Emily will share her knowledge and expertise of painting the figure (and she know her stuff as she’s written a whole book about it!), together with her painting process: revealing the highs and lows of painting as it happens. |

6. Exclusive Costume Design by Eve Stuart & Holly Wright |

Enjoy the unique opportunity to paint from a specially designed costume created by Eve Stuart and a fellow costume design student Holly Wright. Rich in pattern and texture, this bespoke outfit emphasises structure, silhouette, and movement — perfect for exploring the tactile beauty of fabric in motion.‍ |

7. Embellished Eve: Inspired by Art History, Reimagined for Today |

Eve and Holly's design draws inspiration from Medieval and Elizabethan portraits at the National Gallery, blending historical elements with modern influences that reflect Eve's identity as a young woman today. Her Embellished Eve persona embodies both tradition and individuality.‍ |

8. Begin with Energising Quick Studies |
|
|---|
On day one of the course you will start with a series of fast, expressive studies from the moving figure. These exercises will help you loosen up, capture gesture and rhythm, and reconnect with the body as a subject.‍ |

9. Develop Two or Three Longer Paintings |
|
|---|
On days two and three you will move from quick studies to more sustained paintings, developing your painting practice and exploring how to use paint to describe texture and tone; expressing how cloth conceals and reveals, drapes and defines, the form beneath.‍ |
