“When I paint my ambition is never to just capture the view that I see. Equally important is my movement, my breath, the sounds around me, the scents, the intangible, invisible qualities of nature. I have to invent marks and colours for them so that I can combine them with observation, to find images that are visual poetry.” ~

Dear
Can you feel it? There’s a sharpness to the morning air, the blackberries on the vine are over-ripe, the leaves are subtly changing hue. Autumn is coming and it’s a wonderful time of year to be an artist! The majestic shapes of trees illuminate the landscape; often framed with a slate grey or sharp, clear, pale blue sky. The light is softer and the colours mellow and rich. This November Emily and Katie invite you to head out into the landscape with them to celebrate and savour all that this season offers.
“At this time of year I paint with my eyes, celebrating nature’s rich tapestry endlessly unfolding…finding my path in the woods, immersed in the canopy, all senses alert to the changing season. Leaves fall and rot underfoot. Mushrooms bloom. Sound and smell are heightened by the dampness in the air. And once again the colour. Colour at my finger tips. Colour under my skin. This is what I feel and more, when I think about painting Autumn Trees.” ~ Katie Sollohub
