Here at the Seawhite Studio we have been working hard to ensure that our creative programme is full of exciting opportunities right up until the end of the year.  We are delighted to announce that all of our courses for the Autumn/Winter are now on the website and available to book.

  

Choose from short courses, residencies, residential courses, courses at the studio, on location and online – there's something for everyone!  Over the next few weeks we’ll be throwing the spotlight on some of these courses, but in the meantime, we would encourage you to visit the website and make a note in your diary/calendar of those courses that fire you up.  To find out more about each course, simpley click on the button beneath its description.

 

Life is busy  and our time gets accounted for all too quickly, so  we hope this newsletter can be a useful tool in helping you carve out some essential time for creativity - and hope that we can welcome you to the Seawhite Studio soon!

 

SEPTEMBER‍

 

WALKING & DRAWING IN THE ALGARVE


with KATIE SOLLOHUB

 

1-7 September

(arrive Sunday, taught course Monday – Friday, Leave Saturday)

 Set in the stunning expansive

landscape of the Algarve, This  course offers you an alternative way of drawing and a lasting visual memory of an unforgettable experience.   Katie will

introduce playful and experimental approaches to help you creatively respond, absorb and travel through the landscape.‍ By the end of the week you will have a sketchbook full of drawings, writing, collage and other experimental studies.

 EXPRESSIVE PAINTING IN THE ALGARVE LANDSCAPE

8 -13 September

(arrive Sunday, taught course Monday – Friday, leave Saturday)

During this five-day course, colour will be an important theme to explore: to give an equivalent to the glowing red earth, rugged vistas to the sea, the wiry, bleached vegetation and beautiful light. Even the invisible and intangible sensations of heat, breeze, birdsong, space and your mood can be translated into colour and marks. We will make paintings to capture these experiences.

CREATIVE PAINTING SPACE

with NICK BODIMEADE

 

11-13 September (Wednesday – Friday)

 £315‍

 

 

This year-round mentoring-based course is brilliant for artists who have existing work on the go but would like to push their work forward with support from a tutor in a spacious and supportive environment.  It’s a three-day adrenalin shot of creativity that can reignite your work, push it further or kick-start a whole new body of work.

A DAY ON THE BEACH

with SIMON CARTER

 

16-19 September (Monday – Thursday)

Beginning with a day’s drawing on the beach at Worthing, this four-day practical course will look at strategies for unpacking drawings made on location: understanding what it is that makes them work and seeking  ways to maintain the freshness of the initial drawings as you develop ambitious, rich and evocative paintings back in the studio.

STUDIO RESIDENCY WEEK

Five days of undiluted painting in a spacious studio, working alongside Julian and a small group of like-minded artists.‍

A NOT SO STILL LIFE

with KATIE SOLLOHUB

 

16-18 October (Wednesday – Friday)

Still life does not have to be still. In this course you will be working fast and freely from a moving still life set up in the studio with both drawing and painting materials, and on any surface you like.  Working in this free and flexible way enables the artist to work much more intuitively. The resulting paintings and drawings will have a directness, playfulness and an animated energy.‍

CREATIVE PAINTING SPACE

23-25 October (Wednesday – Friday)

 During the Creative Painting Space the studio's atmosphere is always filled with possibilities, creativity and purposeful determination - and great paintings (of course!).  As well as benefiting from one-to-one tutorials, having three consecutive days of undiluted painting time really gives each person the enhance to see progress and get absorbed in their work.

PAINT FIT – AUTUMN STUDIO RETREAT

Paint Fit is all about establishing a daily practice of painting and discovering what really matters to you. Each day starts with a live-online tutorial/demonstration with Emily guiding you through exercises; opening up the possibilities of how you can approach your painting.  Making a commitment to show up in your studio and paint every day quickly gets results - the progress and breakthroughs that participants make during the course are significant and long-lasting. ‍

LANDSCAPE DRAWING & PAINTING FROM PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES

 Drawing & Painting the Landscape from Photographic Sources will

explore how digital photography can be used as a valuable resource for landscape painting. It is an experimental course where you will make a large number of works on paper, drawing in charcoal and painting in acrylics.

Spice up your drawing, expand your horizons and get ready to invent and play  – Katie  is inviting you to (re)discover how vital drawing is, how rigorous and dynamic it can be, and what a joyfully liberating activity it is to do! Embodied Drawing  is an experimental two-day drawing course embracing the physicality of drawing on a large scale: using your own body, gesture and sensation as your subject.‍

This week long residency is for anyone wishing to use drawing to expand their practice, giving dedicated time and a generous space to commit to making your work. Katie will be making large scale drawings and installations,

inspired by movement, dance, improvisation and story telling.‍

This week makes an ideal follow-on from Katie’s two-day Embodied Drawing course (running the week before). Emily will also be doing her own drawings in the studio during the residency week. There is a lot of energy, expertise and inspiration that can be gleaned from working next to two professional artists! ‍
